Tim Berners-Lee Wins A.M. Turing Award: The creator of WWW (World Wide Web) has been tributed a 2016 Turing Award. The Turing Award is also known as the ‘Nobel Prize of Computing.’ This Award is distributed by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). It is an honor to a person who has given his immense support to the computing field. The Internet sensation from Gadgetsay.
The Turing Award is named next to Alan Turing. He was a well-known British mathematician and scientist. The sponsor of Turing award is Google. The honored person is offered $1 million rewards by Google.
Tim Berners-Lee was born in Britain. He was the founder of the WWW and was awarded a knighthood in 2003. He discovered the web in 1989. He was employed with the CERN while discovering the web. CERN is the European Organization for Nuclear Research. It is an organization which helps the scientists to communicate globally with each other. He is also known for the URIs, HTTP, and HTML. He also coded a browser. While coding the browser, he used the open-source which assist in creating browsers. The Mosaic browser is a good example of an open source which widespread the range of academia.
According to ACM President Vicki L. Hanson, “Without World Wide Web this world would be impossible. The first website came in 1991. Sir Tim Berners-Lee created the fundamental of the internet like URIs, HTTP and web browsers, but without this, the world of internet was not possible.”
Ater receiving the award, Berners-Lee said that he is very grateful to honored with a computing award. He is very honored to get a title of computing pioneer. The programmers play an essential role in making a computer. He said this to MIT where he holds a Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) position. He has also developed the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the World Wide Web Foundation situated at the ACM’s annual banquet in San Francisco. These foundations were established on June 24.
